Assumpta Broomfield’s interest in snowdrops grew while studying at the Botanic Gardens, and this month she will be sharing her knowledge at talks in Cork and Galway

It is no surprise that snowdrops inspire poets to wax lyrical. Their delicate resilience and beauty never fail to impress those who gaze upon them. They are the “pale stars that gladden nature’s dreary night”, the “harbingers of spring”. They may be diminutive in stature, but they are hardy and when you get to know the different cultivars, you will see that these ‘fair maids of February’ are full of character.
