Zappone seeking budget fund to help childcare providers pay ‘living wage’

Katherine Zappone wants a fund created in the budget to allow childcare providers to bring staff salaries to a more acceptable level.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Sunday Business Post in which the Minister for Children acknowledged that she regularly felt like quitting cabinet during her first year in office, she said she was deeply unhappy that childcare is the lowest-paid sector in Ireland with an hourly rate of just €11.93.
