There has been much hand-wringing about how ‘new politics’ is struggling to resolve the issue of water charges.

The Oireachtas committee on the future of water charges, which meets again today, has failed miserably to achieve the hoped-for consensus.

The fact that one of the committee members, Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell, would devise a Facebook posting, criticising the family of another member, Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen, says it all.

But the Dáil schedule for this week shows a much bigger problem, which has been mostly missed in the depressing rowing over water charges.
