Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s controversial Strategic Communications Unit (SCU) will not be shut down but instead scaled back with a smaller budget and fewer responsibilities, The Sunday Business Post has learned.

It comes as emails show how the head of the SCU John Concannon suggested using Fine Gael’s ‘Republic of Opportunity’ slogan to build a charter that could inform government decision-making.
