Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the low number of evictions and repossessions in Ireland is a reason why homeowners pay high mortgage interest rates.

Varadkar also said that “it’s never been easy” to save to buy a house, as he defended the government’s response to the housing and homelessness crisis.
