Tribunal budgets for paying Ahern’s legal costs

The Mahon Tribunal has budgeted for paying the full legal costs of former taoiseach Bertie Ahern for his 20 days in the witness stand.

Last week, the tribunal withdrew corruption findings it previously made against individuals in some of its earlier reports, including former Fianna Fáil minister Ray Burke.

Burke, who was jailed for tax evasion, will be paid his legal costs after winning his challenge against the tribunal’s decision that he had hindered and obstructed its work.
