We don’t let politicians fix electoral boundaries, why do we lets them make the rules on party funding
Is Shane Ross gaming the system by organising an alliance of independents rather than a party of independents?
Actually, no. As Ireland’s rules on funding politics were put together by political parties, they unsurprisingly favour incumbents and political parties.
This obvious unfairness of how politics is funded raises the obvious question. We do not trust politicians any more to decide constituency boundaries so why should we trust them to decide how politics is financed?
