The euro rules are just nuts

In fact the French angle is just tactical – an issue that just happened to be in the right place at the right time that gave an opportunity to the Irish to unleash a request for flexibility in the way some EU budget rules are applied.

The French themselves are supportive of the Irish position – why wouldn’t they be, they like flexibility. More importantly the Germans have also spoken in favour of the Irish case: it seems Wolfgang is still a friend. Even the smallest hawk in the flock, Finland, says that if the Irish meet the conditions then they should get some flexibility with the rules.
