The outgoing British PM inherited a country in shock, but as Farage and Johnson sharpen their knives, she will leave a nation in chaos

‘To serve the country I love” were Theresa May’s parting words as she choked back her tears and left the world stage. The sunny morning outside Downing Street belied the storm clouds that had gathered over her leadership and that dispersed only long enough for her foes to thank her for her service and her sense of duty, before moving on to throw their hats in the ring to take the keys to Number 10.
