Sinn Féin has called for a five-month freeze on energy bills at 2021 price levels to address energy inflation facing Irish households this winter.

Mary Lou McDonald, the Sinn Féin president, was speaking shortly before the party’s annual think-in, which is being held at the EPIC emigration museum on Dublin’s quays. McDonald said that the “price cap” on people’s energy bills would cost in the region of €1.6 billion.
