Former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond has said that British prime minister Theresa May will eventually “cave in” to fresh demands for an independence referendum.

May has rejected the current Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon’s demand to hold a new referendum before spring 2019. Sturgeon’s call came in the wake of the Brexit vote and less than three years after Scotland voted 55 to 45 per cent to remain part of Britain.
