Rivals unite to attack Higgins on Áras spending

President warns against a return to ‘landlordism’ and the notion that only the rich can contest the presidency

President Michael D Higgins yesterday came under a sustained attack from his presidential rivals over spending on hotels and flights during his seven years in Áras an Uachtaráin.

The president was participating in a live debate on RTÉ Radio 1, the first such event between all six presidential candidates ahead of polling day on Friday, October 26.
