The Government is growing more hostile to individual property rights as the housing crisis grows

The idea of using homes left empty after people have to go into nursing home care is not new.

It was proposed by theHousing Agency’s chairman Conor Skehan in this newspaper and elsewhere as far back as November 2015.

And it did make it into the action plan for the rental sector which was launched last year by former Minister for Housing Simon Coveney. But nothing concrete has happened since.

It is only now that it is getting serious political backing from the newMinister for Housing Eoghan Murphy.
