Liadh Ní Riada of Sinn Féin wants to be president because of the crises in housing and health, the unaffordability of third level education, and her belief that elderly people are being “stripped of their dignity”.

The president does not have powers to implement legislative or policy change in these areas, but Ní Riada says she would use her constitutional right to address both houses of the Oireachtas “as often as I can”.
