Ó’Broin: No intention to ‘drag gardaí’ into political controversy over eviction tweet

Eoin Ó'Broin said today he had a “positive phone conversation” with Antoinette Cunningham, the general secretary of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (Agsi).

Eoin Ó'Broin, the Sinn Féin housing spokesman, has insisted he did not mean to offend Gardaí by sharing an image showing them taking part in a Famine eviction.

Since posting the image on Twitter on Saturday, there have been 3.7 million views so far of his tweet featuring a reworked version of “The Eviction”, a famous painting by Cork artist Daniel MacDonald of a distressed family being thrown out of their cottage during the Famine.
