Never mind the reality, where's the fiction?
I’m enjoying Charlie on RTE at the moment, and in particular Aidan Gillen’s portrayal of Haughey’s roguish charm. But as a piece of TV drama it’s ultimately unsatisfying because we all know how it ends, as well as the major turns on the way. If anything, we’re all subconsciously playing political bingo as we watch, ticking off the various moments and events as they happen. Silver teapot for Mrs Thatcher? Tick. Mention of Charvet shirts?...
