Mattie McGrath retracts claim that left-wing TDs spat on gardaí at water protests
“I never intended that the TDs were spitting at anyone but they took it up as that. They weren’t at the gates of Leinster House.”
Independent TD Mattie McGrath has told left wing TDs he never meant to accuse them of spitting at gardaí during anti-water protests.
It came after the Solidarity Party – previously known as the Anti-Austerity Alliance – complained that he had violated Dáil rules with his comments during a debate last November.
