Mary Regan: Change good as a rest for our TDs?
Maybe a fresh start will be just what the Irish political system needs
In the current Dáil, which has been branded ‘the new politics’, at least one tradition has held true: the good old-fashioned long summer recess. The House rose on Thursday for a break lasting nine weeks – bringing the period back to pre-crash levels. And in a shining example of new politics at work, the opposition didn’t raise hell over it – fearful that this time they might actually be listened to.
