Lobbying watchdog wants more powers on 'cooling-off' rules

SIPO's 2018 lobbying report records the first breach of the rules covering public officials moving into the private sector

TheStandards in Public Office Commission(SIPO) has called for new powers to deal withpost-employment provisions of the Regulation of Lobbying Act.

Section 22 of the legislation means that ministers, advisers and public officials are subject to a one-year ‘cooling-off’ period after leaving office, which restricts their ability to engage in lobbying or work for organisations engaged in lobbying.
