Labour comes out in support of digital sales tax

Labour has backed the EU proposal for a digital sales tax which is currently being opposed by the Irish government.

In a speech at the Labour conference in Dublin last night, the party leader Brendan Howlin said Ireland was “over-dependent” on multinationals.

“That’s why Labour supports a digital services tax, so the giants of the internet pay a fair share of tax,” he told party members.
