Kenny stepping down as party leader at midnight after 15 years in charge
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has kicked offthe Fine Gael leadership race by announcing his departure.
He is stepping down as Fine Gael leader at midnight tonight, spelling an end to a 15-year reign in charge of the party.
Kenny said that he would carry out his duties as party leader in an acting capacity, until his successor was elected through the Fine Gael leadership election process.
