The opinion polls do not tally with the experience of campaigners on the door steps: a No vote would be a political disaster for the Taoiseach

I have an urgent message for the Taoiseach. If the British general election outcome teaches us anything, it must be that opinion polls can be political death-traps for the unwary. What people signal about their intentions can differ hugely, in a very short timeframe, from what they actually do at the ballot box.
