Justice minister in U-turn on human rights body appointments

Flanagan now going to hold a public competition for positions

Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan has backtracked on his offer to automatically reappoint members of the state’s human rights body after several of them threatened to resign.

This follows criticism from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) itself, of plans by Flanagan to automatically reappoint eight of its members when their terms expire in October.
