‘Junk the backstop’ urges Johnson at DUP conference
The calls came as EU leaders are expected to formally sign off on Britain’s withdrawal agreement today before a crucial vote in Westminster next month
Former British foreign secretary Boris Johnson has called on the British government to “junk the backstop” as he yesterday urged the DUP to maintain its confidence and supply agreement with the Conservative Party.
The former British foreign secretary was the star attraction at the DUP’s annual conference just outside Belfast, where party leader Arlene Foster called for an improved Brexit deal and party MEP Jeffrey Donaldson gave some rare praise to the Irish government.
