Independent TD Noel Grealish has been criticised by colleagues in the Dáil’s rural independent group over his decision to support the Fine Gael minority government.

The Galway West TD announced a fortnight ago that he had agreed to give the government the “necessary support” during the crucial stages of Brexit negotiations following talks with the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Simon Coveney.

The decision has been criticised by two members of the rural independent group which exists primarily for Dáil speaking rights.Independent Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath, the group’s whip, said it was “farcical” that Grealish was in the group yet supporting the government in Dáil votes.
