There was a telling exchange at the banking inquiry between Kieran O’Donnell and chair Ciarán Lynch. Referring to the former Anglo Irish Bank executive Peter Fitzgerald, O’Donnell mistakenly referred to him several times as “Mr FitzPatrick”, much to the consternation of Lynch.

Lynch: “Mr Fitzgerald. Different soldier, Deputy. You’re all right.”

O’Donnell: “Wishful thinking on my part, Chairman.”

Lynch: “Careful.”

O’Donnell: “A personal view, Chairman, not a committee view.”
