Higgins hints at second term in the Áras
The 76-year-old has in recent years refused to rule out a second term despite saying he would only serve one seven-year term when he ran for the presidency in 2011
President Michael D Higgins has given his strongest indication yet that he will seek a second term in office.
Speaking at the Irish embassy in London earlier this month, Higgins said: “My task is not yet finished and I have a very, very full programme for the rest of this year . . . and, indeed, my commitment might go well beyond that.”
