Plans are being drawn up to move senators into the Dáil chamber next year as part of a multi-million euro repair project for Leinster House.

Seanad shut down

The Seanad chamber needs to be shut down for safety repairs. The Oireachtas library and other rooms in Leinster House, which are almost 300 years old, are also due for extensive repair works.

There were proposals to relocate the 60 senators to Dublin Castle, but the preferred option now is to have them share the Dáil chamber with TDs.
