Government to rethink concrete block levy after backlash from building industry

Developers claimed charge could delay building projects or increase the cost of homes

As part of Budget 2023, the government placed a 10 per cent levy on concrete products to help pay for the mica redress scheme, but have now postponed the move

The government has reassured the construction industry that the controversial concrete block levy will be postponed or adjusted after claims that it could delay the delivery of new homes, the Business Post has learned.

A building industry source said they had received assurances that the government will be "going back to drawing board" on the levy, and and that it will not appear in the Finance Bill in its current form “at the very least”.
