Government backs 'transformative' broadband plan

The government has approved the appointment of a preferred bidder to the National Broadband Plan, which aims to bring high-speed internet connections to 1.1 million people in rural Ireland.
The sole remaining bidder was National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the Granahan McCourt consortium led by Irish-American businessman David McCourt.
