Further tax cuts will worsen inequality

In his first column for the Sunday Business Post, UCD lecturer Julien Mercille calls for a new balance

Last week, in his RTÉ documentary The Great Wealth Divide, David McWilliams slapped the nation in the face with one number: 73 per cent. This is the share of the country’s wealth owned by the top 20 per cent of Irish households. The top 10 per cent own 54 per cent, and the top 1 per cent own 15 per cent. This is a skewed distribution that Budget 2016 could help rectify.
