Force surgeons to work in A&E, says nursing union

RCSI against proposal except in major incidents, but emergency doctors say they could use the help

Surgeons should be drafted in to help out in busy emergency departments, the head of the nursing union has said.

Liam Doran, general secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), told The Sunday Business Post that surgeons whose operating lists are cancelled should be redeployed into busy hospital emergency departments.
