In 1992, Gay Mitchell had a dream. The then lord mayor of Dublin believed the capital could one day host the Olympic Games. Amid much derision and scepticism, a feasibility study was undertaken. Dublin’s docklands would be the Olympic village, Croke Park would be the main stadium and the RDS, UCD and Lansdowne Road would all be utilised. But it never happened. Nor was it ever given any serious consideration.
