FF TD proposes € 5,000 tax credit for low-income families instead of welfare

A Fianna Fáil TD has proposed a radical new child tax credit that would be worth around €5,000 every year to low-income families.

Marc MacSharry has produced a detailed policy paper which proposes a new tax credit system for families with children. He said it would address welfare traps where some parents can find that they are better off on state benefits than in employment.
