EU to reassign British MEP seats

The new measures would see the overall number of European Parliament seats reduced to from 751 to 700

Ireland is set to gain two extra MEPs after Britain leaves the European Union under proposals to be voted on in the European Parliament next month. Although the date and circumstances of Britain’s withdrawal remain far from certain, the parliament’s constitutional affairs committee has drafted proposals to reallocate MEP seats after Brexit.

The European Parliament currently has 751 seats, of which 11 are assigned to Ireland and 73 to Britain.
