The state’s electoral standards watchdog has dropped plans to overhaul guidelines for the disclosure of accounts by political parties, despite concerns raised about parties operating in multiple jurisdictions.

The Standards in Public Office had been reviewing its guidelines after Sinn Féin’s acceptance of a £2.9m (€3.46m) donation from William Hampton, a reclusive English millionaire, who died in 2018.
