Eoghan Murphy survives – and the housing crisis continues

Eoghan Murphy is safe for another six months at least, but all eyes will be on Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe to see if he can deliver a ‘housing budget’

"I will not be hounded out of office by personalised advertising campaigns and attacks against me,” declared Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy.

And indeed he was not, withSinn Féin’s motion of no confidence in him being defeated by 49 votes to 59 earlier this week.

It was notable that the government lined up a series of cabinet ministers to pile in after Murphy – first Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, then Simon Harris, then Richard Bruton. There was a unified message that this was just a Sinn Féin stunt to pretend that the housing crisis could be solved by sacking one man.
