In the early hours of Monday, June 15 of last year, the long and torturous talks on forming a new government were coming to a head.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s negotiators had already agreed to the Green Party’s key demand of a new Climate Action Bill that would commit Ireland to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, but the question of how much of a role agriculture should play was proving particularly contentious.
