Education minister aims to cut primary pupil-teacher ratio
Education minister Jan O’Sullivan is seeking to tackle the problem of super-sized primary school classes in the budget.
She has asked officials in her department to carry out a costing exercise on lowering the pupil-teacher ratio of 28-to-1.
There are already almost a quarter of primary school children – or 121,000 – in classes of 30 or more.
