Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is spending almost €250,000 on a special parliamentary unit to help warn Independent ministers about opposition motions.

The parliamentary liaison unit was set up in May 2016 to brief Independent Alliance ministers and other Independent ministers about what was happening in the Dáil and Seanad.

The liaison unit is staffed by four civil servants in the Department of the Taoiseach and has an annual salary bill of €244,000.
