€2 million Leinster House recording system gets green light

Bidders have been asked to come up with proposals for facial recognition of TDs and senators who are speaking in the Dáil and Seanad chambers. This would allow for broadcast footage to be captioned automatically

TDs and senators have given the go-ahead for a new €2 million recording system in Leinster House which could include real-time facial recognition.

The Oireachtas Broadcasting Unit currently records about 8,000 hours of debates in the Dáil, Seanad and committee chambers every year.

However, it is now seeking a new system for recording and storing the debates.
