Dublin city centre power cable and heating pipes to be laid at same time

Carrying out electricity upgrade and district heating installation together will mean roads will have to be opened just once, reducing traffic disruption, says Eamon Ryan

Major roadworks to replace electricity cables around Dublin will be used to also lay a major district heating system in Dublin city centre, Eamon Ryan, Minister for the Environment, has said.

Asked if plans for upgrading Dublin’s electricity cables could also allow for the installation of district heating pipes, which will take waste heat from the Poolbeg incinerator and deliver it to buildings down the quays and into Dublin city centre, Ryan said they would.
