Doherty backtracks on pledge not to set up child maintenance agency

Minister had said she would not ‘stick my two feet’ into area that was another minister’s bailiwick

Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty is pushing ahead with the creation of a stand-alone child maintenance agency, despite previously stating that she would not “stick my two left feet” into an area that is the responsibility of another cabinet minister.

Doherty told the Dáil last week that the current system for ensuring absent parents pay maintenance towards the upkeep of their children was “not working”.
