Taoiseach Leo Varadkar sees himself as a very different leader to his predecessor Enda Kenny. But he is expected to publicly signal a change in his attitude to abortion in the coming weeks, just as Kenny changed course in relation to same-sex marriage.

Kenny, of course, had once famously almost tripped over a flowerpot trying to avoid giving his views on same-sex marriage to TV3’s Ursula Halligan outside the National Library in Dublin.
