Decentralised state offices have rent bill of almosat €6m

The state is still paying almost €6 million to rent offices for staff who were decentralised out of Dublin by former Fianna Fáil minister Charlie McCreevy.

Even though the programme was terminated by the current government back in 2012, new documents show that several government departments and agencies are locked into 20-year leases for decentralised offices.

Irish Aid has a 20-year lease on its decentralised office on Henry Street in Limerick, which is costing €900,000 per year.
