Ross appeared to signal that his continuation in government is at risk unless the Judicial Appointments Bill is passed by the summer recess - but would his Independent Alliance colleagues back him?

When Shane Ross, the Independent Alliance TD, entered government two years ago he had two priorities: the reopening of a garda station in his constituency and an overhaul of what he said was the “rotten system” of judicial appointments.
