The ongoing mayhem in Westminster has played a key role in Fianna Fáil’s decision to sign up for one more year of confidence and supply with Fine Gael

If Taoiseach Leo Varadkar wanted to call a general election before Christmas, then it has become clear in recent weeks that he should have done so last September. Indeed, some ministers believe Varadkar gave serious consideration to not coming back from the Dáil’s summer recess and heading straight to the country.
