Coca-Cola’s sugary charm offensive against new tax

Drinks giant has met with ministers and politicians ahead of a new tax on sugary drinks

Ministers Michael Noonan and Mary Mitchell O’Connor are among a dozen politicians and senior officials who met with Coca-Cola as the drinks giant steps up its campaign against the planned sugar tax.

Noonan intends to introduce a tax on sugary drinks in April of next year in line with the introduction of a similar tax in Britain, and said a consultation process would open early this year.
