Churchillian rhetoric from Varadkar as first Brexit deal is done

It is strange to hear a Taoiseach quoting Winston Churchill after making a deal with the British government.

But Leo Varadkar described the deal on avoiding a hard border as 'not the end, but it is the end of the beginning".

That was the phrase employed by Churchill after the British victory at the Battle of El Alamein in 1942, which proved to be a milestone in the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany.
