BUDGET 2016: Brian Keegan on where he thinks the money should be spent

The government has already announced the total value of the tax package for Budget 2016 at between €600 million and €750 million

This year’s budget is the first for a number of years to be framed against the backdrop of a recovering economy. Figures presented by the Department of Finance to the Oireachtas committee on finance, public expenditure and reform last Tuesday were downright cheerful. The officials pointed to strong export growth in 2015 and recovering domestic demand. So what should be factored into this year’s budget?
